Vote for the Climate Public Forum

Thursday, 11 March 6:30-8:30pm

The forum is a joint initiative of Climate Action Hobart, a grassroots community climate action group and Environment Tasmania, the state’s peak environment body and is supported by the UTAS Environment Collective.

The public forum will provide the community with the latest information on Tasmanian political parties’ climate change policies in the lead up to the state election. The forum will be chaired by community leaders and will include a presentation on Climate Action Hobart’s benchmarks for Tasmanian climate change policy – Ten Steps for a Safe Climate: Tasmania ’s contribution to avoiding dangerous climate change.

Public Lecture - "The CPRS is it right for Australia" with Tim Flannery

Grand Opening - Source Community Wholefoods

After 5 years of hard work and hundreds of dedicated volunteers lending a hand, Source Community Wholefoods is opening it's doors.  If you want access to affordable, ethical food - Source is the place for you!  The Sandy Bay not-for-profit food store will stock everything from healthy treats to all the fixings for a gourmet meal to toilet paper! A florishing community garden, green waste recycling, wood-fired pizza oven and community leisure space complete the site. Honey Bee Blues - Screening

Geeveston Atmos Fair

Sunday, 21 March - 10am

The Atmos Fair is to encourage the community of Geeveson to find ways to become more energy efficient, reduce thier emissions and explore new and existing ideas in renewable energy, water conservation, recycling and local food production, save money and have fun! POGC FESTIVAL – BACK TO THE FUTURE - Penguin

27th and 28th March 2010

There will be garden tour on the 27th, with the festival happening on the 28th at the Penguin Organic Growing Centre. The festival will include plenty of great activities for both adults and especially for children, lots of stalls and demonstrations for sustainable living.

South Hobart Neighborhood Day Celebration

Sunday, 28 March 11-1pm

Join other residents of South Hobart to celebrate the South Hobart Community. There will be pancakes, circus skills workhsops, bicycle maintenance, fresh local produce and much more.  The inagural event will be held in the D'Arcy Street park and is a joint initiative of the South Hobart Sustainable Community Group and the South Hobart Progress Association.

Waterworks Harvest Fair

Sunday, 28 March 2-5pm

The Waterworks Community are putting on the family fun day in the park at Waterworks Reserve.  There will be stalls, entertainment, games for the kids, food and fun for all.  Download a copy of the poster.

Public Lecture - Blue Sky Series presents Jean-Michel Cousteau

The TCCO invites you to an exciting event featuring world-famous marine film-maker Jean-Michel Cousteau of the Ocean Futures Society. Mr Cousteau will speak on the impact of climate change on our oceans. 

This event will be held at the Stanley Burbury Theatre, UTAS Sandy Bay campus. See flyer for full details.

Regenerative Agriculture Workshop Series : AUS/NZ 2010

This initiative is being developed and facilitated by leading farm education providers across Australia and New Zealand and features both international presenters Joel Salatin (US), Kirk Gadzia (US) & Eugenio Gras (MX) and locals Darren J. Doherty (AU) & Paul Taylor (AU) respected worldwide for their innovative contributions to farming methodology.

The workshops series will run state-by-state over a period of four months and cover a broad curriculum spanning grazing and farm management, through soil fertility and farm design to direct marketing and re-localisation strategies. An extraordinary company of worldwide expertise who will assemble (through the Regenerative Agriculture Workshop Series), the big picture concerning the present & future of agriculture & community.
