Thanks to Tas Gas Networks some of the SLT team had the use of a natural gas powered car for a recent trip to Launceston.
The car was a Toyota Aurion and, other than the colourful signwriting that boasts about its power source, you'd never know it was different to any other car. When it ran out of gas it simply switched itself over to run on petrol.
The car runs on compressed natural gas (CNG), which Tas Gas describes as offering "significant cost savings compared with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)." Simon Himson, Tas Gas Commercial Manager, tells us it's also a cleaner fuel, with lower emissions of particulate matter and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) than other fossil fuels.
It was certainly interesting to test drive this new vehicle. Keep an eye out for it around town – it's hard to miss!
