So you want to start a local group? There are any number of ways to do this. Here are some ideas that have worked for others:
Find a venue, hire an appropriate documentary, such as In Transition or Power of Community, invite appropriate people, perhaps your local garden club, Mayor... put up a sign advertising that you have a movie night coming up for those who are interested in living more sustainably. Get some support from people who have already done this. The site http://transitiontas.ning.com/ is a great place to find these people.
Start a website (Ning is an easy place to start), get as many people to become members as possible, and begin advertising relevant events. Invite your local school, community groups, fire brigade to join the website and advertise their own activities.
Start small: initiate a garden club to meet once a month and share books, plants, seeds, produce and ideas.
Ideally, find at least two other people in your area who already understand the benifits of increasing your area's resilience.
